Stanley Robertson: 8 June 1940 – 2 August 2009

STEP colleagues were saddened to hear of the death of Stanley Robertson. Stanley was 69, and died of a heart attack. Stanley’s funeral was on Friday, 7th August, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Anderson Drive, Aberdeen, and was buried at Lumphannan Cemetery.

Born in Aberdeenshire, Stanley was a Traveller man, a storyteller, a ballads singer and author. His immense contribution to the culture of Scotland is recognized both at home and abroad. He made significant contributions to the University of Edinburgh – to STEP and to the School of Scottish Studies Archives. He will be sadly missed by his fellow Travelling folk and by the many ‘country folk’ who enjoyed his was of telling stories – he brought a smile to many a face.
